ELITE, OOLITE – Limitations, but nice to relive the past!

I got ELITE (Orig) C64 version emulating just fine in MAY14 – But it is showing its age!
I used http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/game.htm and http://www.winrar64bit.org/ to get the  game working.

BUT ELITE emulators have an inability to save progress – SO not ideal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I then found http://www.oolite.org/ via the http://www.eliteforever.co.uk/links.html website in JUN14 – Oolite is a step improvement on the ELITE game!

It is also modifiable and I found a useful way to gain all the Kredits you could ever want, and allow you to keep topping it up:

The only cheat is to: Edit the’ savefile’ manually. This file can be found in: Oolite/oolite.app/oolite-saves/ and should open in an ordinary text editor.
For extra money find (Ctrl+F) the word ‘Credits’, you are looking for a line, as follows: <key>credits</key> <integer>724836</integer>.
Just edit the number to the amount of money you want, 20,000,000 credits will be more than enough to start with!

Thus allowing you to go leaping across the galaxies, exploring, hostile killing without ever having to do the trading grind! But solo player (And all that entails), yet savable at will.
The ships are better, the graphics are better – No match to EVOCHRON or EVE-Online though!
